EVENT DISCLAIMER: During the Effigy burn on Saturday night, nudity is commonly present as participants embrace immediacy and radical self-expression. There is to be NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOGRAPHY DURING THE BURN of any kind, in respect of all participants' privacy. Anyone seen taking photos or videos will be asked to delete the photos and videos, and asked to leave the event. We take privacy and consent of all participants very seriously, and we hope you do too. Do yourself a favour, leave your phone at camp and embrace immediacy with us!

Theme Camps

A Theme Camp is an interactive, inclusive space created by participants for participants. As the social heart of a burn, Theme Camps add vibrancy, creativity, and opportunities for connection.

Creating a Theme Camp takes a committed group willing to contribute time, energy, and resources to build immersive, participatory experiences for fellow burners.

Anyone can create or join a Theme Camp- no idea is too big, small, or unconventional.

The best Theme Camps offer a visually engaging presence, shared community space, and opportunities for unexpected interaction.

Examples include performance venues, kids’ camps, play spaces, bars, chill-out lounges, cafés, workshop areas, discussion spaces, and sound camps.

This Theme Camp Handbook is from 2021 and has not been updated for our 2026 event, although there is still a lot of useful information in it and is worth reviewing if you are planning on having a Theme Camp at Modifyre 2026.

A

Art

Everyone is invited to partake in the creation of these experiences.

Your challenge is to create interactive experiences that will inspire and engage your fellow citizens.

This type of work blurs the distinction between artist and spectator, manufacturer and consumer.

P

Performance

Got something to offer but nowhere to share it? The Heart is calling!

The Heart is our central community hub- the welcoming, vibrant centre of event life where ideas, creativity, and connections come together.

If you have an activity and would like to reserve a time slot, fill out this form. Music, poetry, art, movement, meditation, crafting, comedy, conversation, or play- if it comes from the heart, it belongs here.

The Heart is expected to provide a stage, sound system, mixer, microphone, and stand, though participants are encouraged to be as self-sufficient as possible. Final details will be confirmed closer to the event.

Quiet Time: 8–10 am daily is reserved for low-sound, low-energy activities. Please consider this when planning your offering.
